Rajshahi: The election for the Rajshahi University Central Students Union (RUCSU) is set to take place on September 15, 2025. A seven-member commission, led by Chief Election Commissioner Prof Amzad Hossain, made the announcement today.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the election schedule outlines that the election code of conduct will be revealed on July 31, with the draft voters list scheduled for publication on August 6. The dates set for receiving and resolving objections on the voter list are August 7, 10, 11, and 12, followed by the final voter list publication on August 14.
Nomination papers will be distributed from August 17 to 19, with submission dates on August 21, 24, and 25. The scrutiny of nomination papers is planned for August 27 and 28. The primary list of candidates will be released on August 31, with September 2 designated for the withdrawal of nomination papers. The final list of candidates will be available on September 4. Polling will take place simultaneously across all residential halls on September 15.
Other members of the commission, including Prof Nizam Uddin, Prof Nazrul Islam, Prof Enamul Haque, Prof Abdul Hannan, Prof Aminul Haque, and Prof Mostofa Kamal Akanda, were also present during the announcement. The RUCSU constitution mandates annual elections, but this process has been disrupted over the years, primarily due to the country’s political climate. The last RUCSU election occurred in the academic year 1989-90, where Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal candidate Ruhul Kabir Rizvi Ahmed and JSD Chhatra League candidate Ruhul Kuddus Babu were elected Vice-president (VP) and General Secretary (GS), respectively.
