Dhaka: Advisor to the Ministry of Cultural Affairs, Mustafa Sarwar Farooqui, emphasized the vital significance of July for everyone's existence, urging that the essence of July must be preserved. He remarked on the need to develop a collective narrative about the struggles associated with July to prevent these stories from fading into obscurity.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Farooqui made these comments while speaking as the chief guest at the closing ceremony of the International Conference on The July Revolution ICJR-1, 2025. The event, which featured a cultural program, was jointly organized by Research and Integrated Thought (RIT) and the Department of Political Science, Dhaka University.
Farooqui explained the government's efforts to create a narrative about the July Uprising, clarifying that these are informal initiatives. He highlighted the challenges of expanding work in this area within a short timeframe but expressed hope that future generations would continue these efforts.
The event also featured a performance of the drama "Lal-July" (Red July). Abu Sadiq Kayem, former president of Dhaka University Chhatra Shibir, spoke as a special guest, stressing the importance of preserving July as a cultural, intellectual, and academic asset. He underscored the necessity of creating a narrative around July to maintain its relevance, noting that the day's event was a step in that direction.
