Dhaka: Bangladesh is likely to play a series against either Nepal or the Netherlands in August to prepare for the upcoming Asia Cup. The potential series comes after India postponed their white-ball tour, which included three ODIs and three T20Is, leaving Bangladesh with an open window in August.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Cricket Operations Chairman Nazmul Abedeen Fahim mentioned Nepal and the Netherlands as probable opponents for Bangladesh. Speaking at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium, Fahim noted, "No big team is available at the moment because they are busy with their commitments. We think we can play against other countries. It could be like Netherlands and Nepal or some such country. We are trying at this moment."
Bangladesh's cricket team recently concluded a 40-day stretch of continuous cricket following their home series against Pakistan. The players are set to receive at least two weeks of rest before resuming their regular activities. Captain Liton Das, after the victory against Pakistan, expressed that arranging a series ahead of the Asia Cup would be beneficial for the team.
Fahim further explained, "We'll try our best to arrange a series. But if it is not possible, the national team is scheduled to play a series with the 'A' team or HP. They will also have a three-week preparation camp."
The schedule for the Asia Cup has yet to be finalized, but Asian Cricket Council (ACC) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi has confirmed that the tournament will take place in the United Arab Emirates from September 9 to 28, with eight teams, including Bangladesh, set to compete.
