Dhaka: The online admission process for Class-XI students in government and private colleges for the 2025-26 academic year will begin on July 30, following the results of the Secondary School Certificate (SSC) or equivalent examinations, as no admission test will be accepted.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education issued a notification stating that applications will start from July 30 and will continue until August 11. Students eligible for admission include those who have passed the SSC or equivalent examinations in the current academic year and within the previous two years. For students from foreign boards, admission can only be granted after standards are set and approved by the Dhaka Education Board.
In terms of group selection, students in the science group can apply for any group, including science, humanities, and business studies. However, students in the business studies and humanities groups will not have the opportunity to gain admission in the science group. Those who have passed SSC or Dakhil Vocational from Madrasah and Technical Education Boards can apply for admission to any group of the General Education Board.
The policy states that 93 percent of the total seats in government and private colleges will be available to all students. The remaining 7 percent will be reserved for specific quotas: 5 percent for children of freedom fighters or martyred freedom fighters, 1 percent for children of officials and employees of the Ministry of Education, and 1 percent for children of officials of subordinate departments and organizations. If no eligible candidates are found for the reserved quota, those seats will be filled based on merit.
Merit order will be determined by the total marks obtained, and in cases of equal GPA, the marks in specific subjects will be considered. Science group students will have their Mathematics, Biology, and English marks evaluated, while Humanities and Business Studies group students will have their English, Mathematics, and Bengali marks considered.
Students who have passed SSC from the same school and college will receive priority for admission in their designated group at their college. Once seats in the concerned group are filled, outside students can be admitted to the remaining seats. The entire admission process will be conducted online, with all related information published on the colleges' websites and notice boards.
The Inter-Education Board Coordination Committee will determine the admission fee, which will be published as a notification subject to approval by the Secondary and Higher Education Department. No additional money can be accepted beyond the approved fee, and a receipt must accompany all fee payments.
Additionally, there will be no opportunity to switch back to the science group once a student has been admitted to a different group. Similarly, students admitted to the science group cannot return to the group if they leave. Colleges are prohibited from issuing a Transfer Certificate (TC) without board permission, and admission to another institution cannot be obtained by presenting such a TC. Information regarding TCs must be submitted to the board within 15 days of issuance, subject to board permission.
The policy also warns that colleges not approved or conducting admission activities on unapproved campuses will face initiatives to cancel their recognition and MPO. Government colleges found violating the policy will face actions as per the regulations.
