Dhaka: The government has officially issued the gazette notification for the Voters' List (Amendment) Ordinance 2025, marking a significant shift in the electoral process.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the newly issued notification empowers the Election Commission (EC) to publish the voters' list at any point before the announcement of the polls schedule, should it be deemed necessary. This move allows for greater flexibility in updating the electoral roll and ensures that more individuals can participate in the democratic process.
The notification was released by the Legislative and Parliamentary Affairs Division of the Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs on Thursday night. This change addresses a previous limitation where individuals who turned 18 after January 1 were not eligible for inclusion in the voters' list. Under the new ordinance, the EC now has the authority to update the list throughout the year, enhancing electoral inclusivity.
