Dinajpur: Thunder Blade team emerged champions in the Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman Football Tournament, edging out the Young Star team by 4-2 in a penalty shoot-out during a closely contested final match held at Hajee Mohammad Danesh Science and Technology University (HSTU) central ground-1 today.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the thrilling final match progressed to a tie-breaker after regulation time concluded in a goalless draw. The tournament was organized on the occasion of the Festival of Youth, emphasizing the importance of sports among the youth.
Professor Dr. M. Enamullah, Vice Chancellor of HSTU, graced the event as the chief guest and distributed prizes to the winners. In his address, he expressed satisfaction that the tournament was conducted in honor of Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman, acknowledging his legacy as a successful leader of the country. He encouraged students to participate in sports to boost their physical capabilities alongside their academic pursuits.
The Vice Chancellor also emphasized the significance of organizing sports events like the Festival of Youth throughout the year, advocating for continuous engagement in such activities to promote overall development.
