Dhaka: Commerce Adviser Sk. Bashir Uddin today assured that no measures would be taken that could potentially harm Bangladesh's interests in response to the imposition of tariffs by the United States. Bashir addressed questions from journalists at the Ministry of Commerce at Bangladesh Secretariat.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Bashir revealed that a letter had been dispatched to the relevant U.S. authorities concerning the tariff issue. The letter delineates Bangladesh's stance and actions within its capabilities. 'We're now awaiting a response and an invitation. There is no stagnation in our efforts regarding this matter,' he stated.
When questioned about the business community's decision to appoint lobbyists, the Commerce Adviser clarified that this decision falls under the jurisdiction of the businesses themselves. 'No lobbyist has been appointed by the government,' he emphasized.
Bashir added that a request has been made for a schedule for an online meeting. The outcomes of this meeting will guide the next steps for Bangladesh in addressing the situation.
