Dhaka: Of the 44 individuals admitted to the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery (NIBPS), eight are in critical condition and are currently being treated in the intensive care unit (ICU), according to institute director Dr Md Nasir Uddin.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, in a press briefing held around 3:45 pm, Dr Nasir Uddin stated that of the 44 patients receiving treatment, eight are in critical condition, 13 are serious, and the remaining 23 are in intermediate condition. The admissions followed a fighter jet crash at Milestone School and College located in Uttara, Dhaka.
Dr Nasir Uddin mentioned that discussions were held with doctors from Singapore regarding patient treatment decisions. Feedback was provided after evaluating each patient's needs, including medication, surgical requirements, and dressing changes. Singaporean specialists are advising on the treatment plans for the burn victims.
The director highlighted that a multidisciplinary team has reviewed treatment protocols with Singaporean experts, integrating recommended procedures into patient care. Burn treatment is dynamic, with decisions potentially changing hourly, especially for vulnerable groups like children and older patients. Each patient undergoes reassessment every 12 hours to make necessary adjustments.
He confirmed that there is a sufficient supply of medication and all essential medical equipment to support ongoing patient care.
