Dhaka: Education Adviser CR Abrar has provided an explanation regarding the decision to postpone the Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) examinations, which was made late at night on July 21. The education adviser shared this information while speaking to journalists at the secretariat today.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the adviser revealed that communication with Singapore had been ongoing late into the night to secure improved treatment for those injured in the catastrophic jet crash at Milestone School and College on July 21. "We (members of the advisory council) returned home late after discussing treatment, and then the examination issue came to light. We discussed it with some other advisers as no single person has the right to make decisions regarding examinations," the adviser clarified.
Despite taking time to postpone the examination, the education adviser assured that the decision was made appropriately and in due time, following the necessary procedures. In response to a journalist's question, the adviser acknowledged the calls for his resignation by students but stated that such a decision falls under the jurisdiction of the Chief Adviser. He emphasized that there was no mismanagement following the aircraft accident, and therefore, he would not voluntarily resign from his position.
The adviser also mentioned he was unaware of the reasons behind the education secretary's removal. However, he noted that the demands raised by the students of Milestone School and College were reasonable.
The government decided to postpone the HSC and its equivalent examinations scheduled for July 22 and 24, following the jet crash at Milestone School and College in Uttara, Dhaka. The postponement was announced in Facebook posts in the early hours of Tuesday by Information and Broadcasting Adviser Mahfuz Alam and Youth and Sports Adviser Asif Mahmud Sajib Bhuyain.
