Kawkhali: A court here today sent two fugitive accused of the Rokeya Begum murder case at Zolagati village in Kawkhali upazila of the district to jail. Earlier, Kawkhali police produced the accused before the court, and the court ordered their incarceration, Officer-in-Charge of Kawkhali Police Station Md Solaiman Hossain stated.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, a team of Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) under Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) apprehended the two absconding accused from the Darus Salam area in the city on July 21. The arrested individuals have been identified as Md Abdus Sobhan, aged 50, and Rahela Begum, aged 42, both residents of Zolagati village in Kawkhali upazila. On Tuesday, the CTTC team transferred them to Kawkhali Police.
The murder case filed with Kawkhali Police Station reveals that a rival group of Rokeya Begum's neighbors assaulted her with an iron rod over a land dispute on May 28, 2025, causing severe injuries. She succumbed to her injuries while being transported to Khulna 250-bed hospital for treatment.
Nasrin Akter, the deceased's daughter, registered a murder case with Kawkhali Police Station against six identified individuals and 3-4 unidentified persons, as detailed in the case. The officer in charge mentioned that police have so far arrested three suspects in connection with this murder case, and efforts are ongoing to apprehend the remaining accused individuals.
