Khulna: Vice-Chancellor (VC) of Khulna University (KU) Professor Dr. Md. Rezaul Karim emphasized the importance of early detection in combating cancer, describing it as a disease with costly treatments. During a cancer awareness workshop at the Liaquat Ali Auditorium of KU, he highlighted the critical need for early diagnosis to prevent and control the disease.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Professor Karim addressed the lack of awareness that results in most patients failing to detect cancer early, leading to significant suffering. The workshop was a joint effort by the Biotechnology and Genetic Engineering (BGE) Discipline of Khulna University, Bangladesh National Commission for UNESCO (BNCU), and the Department of Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology of Dhaka University.
The VC stressed the role of youth in social awareness, stating that engaging university students in health awareness programs is crucial. Special guests at the event included Pro-Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. Md. Harunur Rashid Khan, Treasurer Professor Dr. Md. Nurunnabi, and Dean of the School of Life Science Professor Dr. Md. Golam Hossain.
Professor Dr. Md. Mursalin Billah, Head of the BGE Discipline, presided over the workshop, while Professor Dr. Sabina Yasmin of Dhaka University delivered the welcome address. Associate Professor Dr. Mushtaq Ibne Ayub of Dhaka University presented the keynote paper, discussing the scientific aspects of cancer, its increasing prevalence among women, and strategies for enhancing awareness.
