Dhaka: Eminent journalist Sohel Manzur, Publisher and Editor of the News Times, died of cardiac arrest at his residence in the city's Mohammadpur area today. He was 58. He left behind his wife, a son, a daughter, and a host of relatives and well-wishers to mourn his death. His Namaz-e-Janaza was held at Mohammadpur, and he will be buried at his village home in Rangpur.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Sohel Manzur was also an adviser of the Journalism and Media Studies Department at Atish Dipankar University of Science and Technology (ADUST). A former student of Mass Communication and Journalism Department at Dhaka University (DU), Sohel worked for different media outlets including the Daily Star, The Financial Express, and bdnews24.com in various capacities during his long career in the profession.
ADUST Board of Trustee Chairman Shamsul Alam Liton, member secretary Md Kamruzzaman Litu, and Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Md Jahangir Alam expressed profound shock and sorrow at the death of Sohel Manzur. Additionally, Economic Reporters Forum (ERF) President Doulat Akther and General Secretary Abul Kashem also expressed deep shock and sorrow at his passing.
In separate condolence messages, they prayed for the eternal peace of the departed soul and conveyed sympathy to the bereaved family members.
