Dhaka: Three more ready-made garment (RMG) factories in Bangladesh have been awarded Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certifications by the US Green Building Council (USGBC). This development highlights Bangladesh's ongoing effort to promote environmental sustainability within its RMG sector.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the addition of these newly certified factories brings the total number of LEED Certified RMG factories in the country to 253. Of these, 105 factories have achieved Platinum certification, 132 have received Gold, and 12 have secured Silver. This achievement positions Bangladesh prominently on the global stage, with the country now home to 9 out of the top 10 and 68 out of the top 100 highest-rated LEED factories worldwide.
The newly certified factories include Comfit Rainbow Dyeing and Finishing, located in Gorai, Mirzapur, Tangail. This facility earned a Gold certification under the LEED O+M: Existing Buildings v4.1 rating system, having scored 75 points. Additionally, SAIHAM COTTON MILLS LIMITED UNIT 1 and UNIT 2, both situated in Saihamnagar, Madhabpur, Habiganj, received Silver certifications under the LEED BD+C: New Construction v4 rating system, each scoring 58 points.
These certifications are seen as a significant milestone for the Bangladeshi RMG industry, reflecting the sector's commitment to sustainable practices and environmental responsibility.
