Dhaka: BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir today expressed concern over the current political climate, stating that fascist elements are once again forming alliances with the intent to reclaim power. His remarks were made during a discussion titled "Expectations of mass uprising and the path to democratic transition of the country" at the Jatiya Press Club.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Fakhrul emphasized the urgency for the interim government to organize national elections promptly. He warned about the resurgence of undemocratic forces, noting an alarming rise in criminal activities and mob rule. Fakhrul reiterated BNP's commitment to establishing a democratic nation with the people's support, emphasizing that no obstacles would deter this goal. He highlighted the significance of the Liberation War of 1971 and the nation's independence, stressing that there can be no compromise on these core issues.
The discussion was presided over by Bhashani Janashakti Party Chairman Rafiqul Islam Bablu.
