Rangpur: Rangpur Kotwali metropolitan police conducted a series of operations throughout the city, leading to the recovery of three illegal firearms and 15 rounds of bullets from security guards employed at three private banks on Thursday.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, two of the three security guards were apprehended during the operation, while the third managed to evade capture by abandoning his weaponry and fleeing the scene. Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Rangpur Kotwali metropolitan police station, Md Ataur Rahman, revealed these details during a press briefing held on Friday afternoon.
The police seized a point 12-bore double-barreled gun, two single-barreled guns, three fake arms licenses, and fifteen rounds of bullets. In response, three separate cases have been filed under the Arms Act.
"We increased security patrols at banking and insurance institutions, conducting raids at Mutual Trust Bank Limited at Jahaj Company Mour, Dutch Bangla Bank Limited at Betpotti, and Jamuna Bank Limited at Walton Mour based on secret information," stated OC Ataur Rahman. As a result of these operations, security guards Shahadat Hossain from MTBL and Zahurul Haque from JBL were arrested, while Moshfequr Rahman from DBBL escaped, leaving his weapon and ammunition behind.
Sub-inspector (SI) of Rangpur Kotwali metropolitan police station, Mahfuzur Rahman, has filed three separate cases under the Arms Act for each incident of weapon recovery. The two detained individuals were presented before a Rangpur court and subsequently sent to jail. Efforts are ongoing to apprehend the absconding security guard, Moshfequr Rahman.
