Gopalganj: Fact-checking platform BanglaFact, operated by the Press Institute Bangladesh (PIB), has identified a video claiming that it was footage of a military operation in Gopalganj, which is actually an old video of the arrest of criminals in Mohammadpur.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, BanglaFact mentioned that leaders and activists of the banned Awami League and Chhatra League attacked the leaders and activists of the National Citizen Party (NCP) on Wednesday during a march and rally in the Municipal Park area of Gopalganj town. Due to the unrest, the administration imposed a curfew in Gopalganj district.
In response to this situation, a video has been circulated on social media, particularly Facebook, claiming that the country's law enforcement forces conducted a military operation in Gopalganj during the curfew last night. However, BanglaFact has clarified that this video does not depict any military operation by law enforcement agencies during the recent curfew in Gopalganj.
In reality, the footage is from a joint forces operation conducted in Mohammadpur last February. BanglaFact, which is dedicated to preventing rumors and fake news, disinformation, and delivering accurate information to the public in Bangladesh, has been instrumental in debunking this misrepresentation.
