Dhaka: Special Assistant to the Chief Adviser in charge of the Ministry of Railways, Dr. Sheik Moinuddin, emphasized the necessity for a long-term, coordinated master plan that integrates road, rail, and waterways to improve Bangladesh's communication system and further develop the railway sector.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Dr. Moinuddin made these remarks while serving as the chief guest at a meeting for exchanging views with officials from the railway ministry and Bangladesh Railway at Rail Bhaban. He highlighted the disparity in railway usage between Bangladesh and other developing countries, where more than 30 to 35 percent of passengers and goods are transported by rail. In contrast, only 2 percent of goods are carried by railway in Bangladesh, indicating a significant potential for growth.
Dr. Moinuddin stressed the need for the country to enhance its passenger and goods carrying capacity through the railway systems. The meeting was chaired by Railway Secretary M Fahimul Islam, with the presence of Director General of Bangladesh Railway M Afzal Hossain and other senior officials.
