Meherpur: The Mourning Day was observed in the district as elsewhere in the country today, marking the ‘July Martyrs’ Day’. A discussion and dua mahfil were organized at the conference room of the Deputy Commissioner around 3.30 pm in memory of the martyrs of the anti-discrimination student movement, initiated by the district administration. Deputy Commissioner Sifat Mehnaz presided over the meeting.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the meeting was moderated by Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Tariqul Islam. It featured speeches from notable figures such as Principal of Meherpur Government College Professor Nazrul Kabir, Chief Executive Officer of Zila Parishad Samiul Haque, Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Khairul Islam, and Deputy Director of the Islamic Foundation AJM Sirajum Munir. District Information Officer Abdullah Al Mamun, BNP member Romanara Ahmed, District Jamaat Secretary Ruhul Amin, and Anti-Discrimination Student Representatives Khandaker Muiz Uddin, Hasnat Zaman Saikat, and Ashiq Rabbi also addressed the gathering.
A special prayer was offered for the eternal peace of the departed souls of the martyrs following the discussion meeting.
