Narail: Saplings of medicinal and fruit trees were distributed among 3,500 students in Sadar upazila here today.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, free saplings were distributed among students from 6th to 12th grade of various educational institutions in Sadar upazila as part of an incentive programme for the Kharif 2025-2026 season. This initiative aims to increase the cultivation and production of medicinal and fruit trees.
The distribution event was led by Deputy Commissioner (DC) Sharmin Akhter Jahan, who participated as the chief guest at a function held at the Mulia Secondary School premises. The event was presided over by Deputy Director of the Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE), Md. Jashim Uddin. Additional Deputy Commissioner (Education and ICT) Md. Ahsan Mahmud Russell, Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Sanchita Biswas, upazila agriculture officer Md. Rokonuzzaman, and upazila secondary education officer Md. Anwar Hossain attended as special guests.
Md. Rokonuzzaman, the agriculture officer, stated that each student received four types of tree saplings. The saplings were provided free of cost to raise awareness among students about the importance of maintaining environmental balance by planting trees. This initiative is expected to inspire students to plant more trees independently in the future.
