Dhaka: Bangladesh Olympic Association (BOA) today handed over a second-phase cheque of Taka five lakh to the family of the late chess icon Grandmaster Ziaur Rahman Zia. The cheque was presented to Zia's wife, Tasmin Sultana Labanya, by BOA's Director General, Brigadier General (retd) ABM Shefaul Kabir, at the BOA Bhaban. According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, this financial support follows an earlier donation made on June 17, when BOA provided an initial amount of Taka five lakh to the family. Ziaur Rahman's only son, Tahsin Tajwar Zia, who is also a chess player, was present during the cheque handover. Ziaur Rahman Zia was renowned for his participation in the highest number of Chess Olympiads representing Bangladesh. He holds the record for being the national champion the most times in the country's chess history and has won over a hundred champion trophies in both domestic and international competitions.
