Dhaka: The list of 4,409 individuals slated for rehabilitation under the Cox’s Bazar Climate Refugee Rehabilitation Project, known as Khurushkul, has been officially cancelled. This decision was announced in a notification signed by Dr. Mohammad Mohibul Hasan, Director of the Chief Adviser’s office. The list, originally prepared in 2011, aimed to facilitate the rehabilitation process for climate refugees in the area.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the cancellation stems from concerns that the list was flawed, questionable, and biased. The rehabilitation initiative outlined in the ‘Beneficiary Selection, Government Flat Handover and Maintenance Policy for Multi-Storey Buildings Constructed in Cox’s Bazar Climate Refugee Rehabilitation Project (Khurushkul)’, 2025, has been deemed unreliable under these circumstances. The authorities have called for a reassessment to ensure a fair and transparent selection process for potential beneficiaries of the project.
