Khulna: Unidentified miscreants shot dead an ex-Jubodal leader in the city today. The deceased was identified as Mahbubur Rahman, 40, the former vice president of the Daulatpur thana unit of Jubodal, the youth front of BNP. Miscreants targeted Mahbubur Rahman at Moheswarpasa Pashimpara under the Daulatpur police station area.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, police and local residents reported that three individuals wearing helmets arrived on a motorcycle in front of Mahbubur Rahman's residence before the Jumma prayer. At the time of the attack, Mahbubur was washing his car when the assailants shot him at point-blank range. After Mahbubur fell to the ground, the attackers severed his tendon to ensure his death and quickly fled the scene.
Local residents transported Mahbubur to Khulna Medical College Hospital (KMCH), where the attending doctor declared him dead. The Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Daulatpur thana, Mir Atahar Ali, stated that four empty cartridges were recovered from the scene and that police have initiated a search for the perpetrators.
Mahbubur Rahman, the son of Md Abdul Karim Molla, was recently expelled from Jubodal following a clash between two student groups at Khulna University of Engineering and Technology (KUET) in February. OC Ali revealed that there are eight cases on record against Mahbubur at Daulatpur thana, related to alleged involvement in drugs and other criminal activities.
Senior police officials have visited the scene of the crime. Additionally, BNP president of the Khulna city unit, Shafiqul Alam Mona, and Jubodal leaders have visited the Khulna Medical College Hospital to pay their respects.
