Khulna: Convener of the National Citizens' Party (NCP) Nahid Islam has emphasized the importance of collective effort in realizing the dream of a new Bangladesh, as envisioned during the July uprising. He highlighted that the uprising was a movement against extortionists and political bankruptcy, issues that are once again prevalent in the country.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Nahid Islam addressed a street rally at Khalishpur people's road premises, where he expressed concern over the rise of extortionists. He cited a recent incident in Dhaka where a businessman was beaten to death over extortion demands, underscoring the ongoing challenges faced by the nation.
Nahid criticized the Awami League for destroying Khulna's industrial heritage by shutting down mills and factories. He also mentioned the construction of a power plant in Rampal, which he argued endangers the Sundarbans, highlighting the environmental concerns associated with the project.
In his address, Nahid urged the people of Khulna to participate in the upcoming July Declaration event in Dhaka on August 3. He was joined by NCP central leaders, including Akhtar Hossain, member Secretary Nasir Uddin Patwari, Tasnim Zara, Hasanat Abdullah, Sarjis Alam, and Nusrat Tabassum, who also spoke at the rally.
