Mongla: Mongla Port has reported earning Taka 343.33 crore in revenue for the fiscal year 2024-2025, exceeding the target by Taka 41.64 crore.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, senior port officials shared these figures during a meeting with journalists, highlighting improvements in revenue income, ship arrivals, cargo handling, and container handling compared to the targets set for the year.
Officials from Mongla Port Authority, including Member (Finance) Kazi Abed Hossain and other key personnel, revealed that the port's increased use is attributed to the dedication of its officials and employees, efficient resource utilization, and swift loading and unloading capabilities. There has been an uptick in ship arrivals following the establishment of an internal business development standing committee focused on monitoring ship handling.
In the 2024-25 fiscal year, Mongla Port saw the arrival of 830 ships, surpassing the target of 800. The port also handled 104.12 lakh MT of cargo, exceeding the target of 88.80 lakh MT. Container handling reached 21,456 TEUs, compared to the target of 20,000 TEUs. Additionally, 11,579 units of reconditioned vehicles were imported through the port.
Mongla Port boasts no ship congestion, with a container unloading turnaround time of 1.66/40 hours. The port offers special facilities for car importers and employs 38 auxiliary vessels, including container yards and various boats, ensuring efficient storage and handling. The ISPS code is strictly adhered to for port security, with the Coast Guard providing regular patrols for the safety of arriving and departing foreign ships.
The port has enhanced navigational facilities with lighted buoys and towers along its 144-kilometer channel, ensuring safe day and night ship movement. Mongla Port features 49 berthing points for foreign commercial ships and is equipped with 134 modern pieces of equipment for container and cargo handling. Safe storage and handling are available at the Roosevelt Jetty in Khulna.
A one-step service facility is available at Mongla Port's jetty area, where permissions, bill payments, equipment bookings, and other services are processed simultaneously. The port imports a range of products including food grains, fertilizers, and machinery, while exporting garments, jute products, and seafood.
Kazi Abed Hossain noted that Mongla Port has developed significantly, with ongoing projects such as jetty construction and dredging expected to further increase its capacity.
