Dhaka: Health officials today reported a surge in dengue cases, with 406 new infections and one death recorded in the past 24 hours. The majority of these cases were concentrated in the southwestern Barishal region, indicating a significant impact in this area.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) stated that out of the 406 new cases, 98 patients were hospitalised in the Barishal division alone, making it the most affected region. Other divisions also saw a rise in hospitalisations, with 78 in Chattogram, 64 in Dhaka division excluding the capital, 53 in Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC), and 36 in Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC). Additional cases were reported in Khulna (35), Mymensingh (4), Rajshahi (31), Rangpur (5), and Sylhet (2) divisions.
Since the onset of the dengue outbreak this year, Bangladesh has recorded 52 deaths and 13,594 infections. Despite the rising number of cases, the DGHS noted that 439 patients have been discharged after recovering from the disease.
The previous year saw a higher toll, with dengue claiming 575 lives and affecting 101,214 individuals across the country.
