Subrota Biswas Leads Unchallenged at GM Zia Memorial 2025

Dhaka: FM Subrota Biswas of Sports Bangla has maintained his solo lead in the GM Zia Memorial 2025 chess tournament, currently taking place at the Bangladesh Chess Federation hall-room, by amassing a perfect score of 6 points after six rounds.



According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, ten players are tied for the second position with 4.5 points each. This group includes IM Manon Reja Neer, IM Md. Minhaz Uddin, FM Tahsin Tajwar Zia, FM Sheikh Nasir Ahmed, FM Sakline Mostafa Sajid, FM Debaraj Chatterjee, CM Chanchal Kumer Ghosh, WCM Warsia Khusbu, IM Kushagra Mohan, and IM Subhayan Kundu.



Additionally, five players share the third position with 4 points. They are FM Khandekar Aminul Islam, CM Shafiq Ahmed, Anata Choudhury, Sk. Rashedul Hasan, and Rishon Thapa from Nepal.



The 5th and 6th rounds of the tournament were conducted today. In the 5th round, notable matches included FM Subrota Biswas defeating IM Kushagra Mohan, FM Tahsin Tajwar Zia winning against FM Khandaker Aminul Islam, and IM Md Minhaz Uddin overcoming CM Md Sajidul Haque. Other results saw FM Sakline Mostafa Sajid, FM Sheikh Nasir Ahmed, and Rishon Thapa all securing victories over their respective opponents.



In the 6th round, FM Subrota Biswas continued his winning streak by defeating FM Tahsin Tajwar Zia. Meanwhile, IM Md. Minhaz Uddin triumphed over Rishon Thapa, and FM Debaraj Chatterjee prevailed against Md Muhaimenul Islam. The round also saw draws among other notable matches, including FM Sheikh Nasir Ahmed against IM Manon Reja Neer and FM Sakline Mistafa Sajid against IM Subhayan Kundu.
