Dhaka: National Consensus Commission Vice-Chairman Professor Ali Riaz today emphasized that the commission is formulating amendment proposals by incorporating the feedback and statements from political parties across various sectors. He clarified that the commission is not imposing any mandates but rather engaging in constructive dialogues to address concerns.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Professor Riaz highlighted the commission's approach during the 10th day of the second phase of discussions with political parties held at the Doel Hall of the Foreign Service Academy. The discussions focused on the objections raised by many parties regarding the National Constitutional Council.
Representatives from 30 political parties, including the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, National Citizen Party (NCP), Gono Odhikar Parishad, Gono Sanghati Andolon, Communist Party of Bangladesh (CPB), Biplobi Workers Party, and Amar Bangladesh (AB) Party, participated in today's deliberations with the National Consensus Commission.
The discussions centered on three pivotal issues: the expansion of subordinate courts at the upazila level, the declaration of a state of emergency, and women's representation. Commission Members Dr. Iftekharuzzaman, Dr. Badiul Alam Majumder, Safar Raj Hossain, Dr. Md. Ayub Mia, and Chief Adviser's Special Assistant Monir Haidar were in attendance.
Professor Riaz assured that the commission remains vigilant to ensure there is no misunderstanding among political parties. He mentioned that in pursuit of consensus, the commission is willing to exclude certain topics from the discussions.
He remarked that the ongoing discussions with political leaders have been constructive and stressed the importance of maintaining this momentum. He called for collective cooperation to expedite the process and achieve the desired outcomes efficiently.
