Barishal: Health officials today announced the registration of 294 new dengue cases within the past 24 hours, with the majority of cases emerging from the southwestern Barishal region.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, a statement from the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) revealed that out of the 294 new cases, 126 patients were hospitalized in the Barishal division, making it the most affected area by the mosquito-borne disease. The statement further detailed that 27 cases were reported in the Chattogram division, 23 in the Dhaka division excluding the capital, 48 in the Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC), 31 in the Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC), and 39 in the Rajshahi division.
Since the onset of the dengue outbreak this year, Bangladesh has recorded a total of 45 deaths and 11,994 infections. Despite the rising number of cases, the DGHS noted that 337 patients were discharged from various hospitals across the country after recovering from the disease.
Last year, the dengue epidemic resulted in 575 deaths and affected 101,214 individuals in Bangladesh.
