Dhaka: Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Adviser Muhammad Fouzul Kabir Khan stated this morning that the interim government has assumed responsibility for overseeing the nation, rather than taking power.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Adviser Fouzul Kabir Khan addressed government officials and stakeholders, asserting the interim government’s focus on good governance. He highlighted that the previous administration’s unnecessary projects had strained the national economy. During their brief tenure, the interim government reportedly saved Taka 45,000 crore by reducing superfluous expenditures and promoting transparency in procurement. The adviser assured that these savings would be redirected towards other developmental initiatives.

During a meeting held at the conference room of the Deputy Commissioner office, Adviser Khan discussed the forthcoming general election, characterizing it as a crucial ‘examination’ for the interim government. He emphasized the need for public servants to maintain neutrality and noted that officials involved in the controversial ‘Midnight Election’ of 2018 had been removed. The adviser highlighted the government’s commitment to ensuring the upcoming elections are free, fair, impartial, and peaceful.

He further mentioned that the upcoming election would be distinct, as it would enable expatriates to participate via postal votes and allow a significant cohort of young voters, who were previously unable to vote for the past 15 years, to exercise their rights.

The meeting was presided over by Deputy Commissioner Hasina Begum, with the attendance of government officials and leaders from various political parties.
