Indonesia Keen to Import Bangladesh’s Jute and Jute Goods: Envoy

Naohata: Indonesian Ambassador to Bangladesh Arif Suyoko has revealed Indonesia's interest in importing jute and jute goods from Bangladesh. Ambassador Suyoko conveyed this during his visit to Hasen Jute Industries Limited, a 100 percent export-oriented jute factory located in Naohata under Paba upazila.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the ambassador highlighted that Indonesia is exploring investment opportunities and seeking to strengthen bilateral cooperation in jute and agriculture sectors. A high-level delegation from the Indonesian Embassy accompanied him, emphasizing the significance of this visit.

Ambassador Suyoko remarked on the superior quality of Bangladesh's jute and jute goods compared to those of Indonesia. This quality difference has driven Indonesia's keen interest in importing more jute and jute products from Bangladesh. He also mentioned the potential for collaboration in jute goods production and processing. Furthermore, he expressed interest in enhancing cooperation in Bangladesh's agriculture sector, particularly in mango cultivation, due to the region's renowned mangoes.

The ambassador assured of providing necessary support to businesses or trade bodies interested in exporting mangoes to Indonesia. He also indicated Indonesia's readiness to invest in joint agricultural initiatives, with special attention to the potential of the Rajshahi region.

During the visit, the Indonesian delegation engaged in detailed discussions with Bangladeshi counterparts, focusing on jute and jute goods exports and outlining future work plans. Both sides expressed optimism about the prospects of exporting jute products to Indonesia.

Ambassador Suyoko toured various units of the factory, observing the production process, the diverse uses of jute, and its by-products. The visit was attended by Hasen Jute Industries' Managing Director Hasen Ali, Chairman Tahera Hasen, Director Towfique Hassan, and Executive Director Ahsan Habib.
