Chittagong: Members of the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested a trader in possession of a large quantity of Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) equipment from the city's Halishahor B Block area early today.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, acting on secret information, a team of RAB-7 conducted a raid in a multi-storied apartment building in the Block B area around 3 am, as stated by Major Sanria Chowdhury, Assistant Director of RAB-7. The RAB team, accompanied by officials from the Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC), discovered a significant number of illegal VoIP business instruments. These included 30 SIM boxes, 10 powerful servers, at least 10,000 mobile SIMs, multiple routers, computers, and various networking equipment from different flats within the building. They arrested one Mizan Khan, aged 32.
The operation was conducted following specific intelligence that indicated the businessman's long-term involvement in illegal VoIP trading, which resulted in significant revenue losses. The law enforcers systematically searched the five floors of the apartment building before detaining the suspect and seizing the extensive VoIP equipment at 3 am today.
Sources reported that the estimated value of the seized VoIP equipment is approximately TK 50 lakh. A case has been filed with the Halishahor police station in connection with the incident.
