Dhaka: Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) today alleged the media presented the comments of its commissioner SM Sazzat Ali on the July 1, 2016, Holy Artisan attack in a 'fragmented' manner while it acknowledged the incident as a 'terrorist' onslaught and casualties there were very tragic and painful.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, DMP issued a statement noting that different national dailies and online news portals carried fragmented comments of the DMP commissioner over the incident coinciding with the ninth anniversary of the event. The statement emphasized that the Holy Artisan incident was a terrorist attack, and after thorough investigations, those involved were brought to justice.
The statement further clarified that the DMP commissioner, in his remarks, highlighted the challenges faced by the police in the country's current situation and pointed out some irregularities during the subsequent governments. The DMP expressed that there should be no room for unnecessary misunderstandings regarding the matter.
The statement reiterated the tragic and painful nature of the terrorist attack and the resulting loss of lives and property. The DMP conveyed its wishes for peace for the departed souls and extended deepest condolences to the bereaved families of the slain foreigners and Bangladeshis. The DMP assured that the police force in the capital city remains vigilant to prevent any such incidents in the future.
