Dhaka: The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has issued a public notice completely prohibiting the carrying of axes, knives, scissors, spears, swords, sticks, and the bursting of fireworks and crackers during Tazia processions marking the celebration of Holy Ashura on July 6.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the ban was announced today in a public notice signed by Acting DMP Commissioner Md. Sarwar. This decision was made under the powers vested in sections 28 and 29 of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police Ordinance (Ordinance No. III/1976).
The order will be effective from the start of the Tazia processions until their conclusion. The notice highlighted that Tazia processions will occur in various areas within the Dhaka Metropolitan region on the occasion of the holy Ashura celebration on July 06, 2025.
The public notice mentioned that some individuals have participated in the Tazia procession carrying knives, daggers, scissors, spears, swords, sticks, etc. This has led to undesirable situations, creating fear and panic among city dwellers and posing a threat to public safety.
