Dhaka: A total of 29,331 beneficiaries have received legal aid from the Workers' Legal Aid Cell in Dhaka and Chattogram under the National Legal Aid Services Organization (NLASO).
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, compensation amounting to Taka 663,26,215 has been collected for the workers through the National Legal Aid Organization. This information has been revealed in a report published on the website of NLASO, which provides insights into legal assistance provided by NLASO from 2009 to May 2025.
Initially, the National Legal Aid Services Organization's service was launched at the district level. However, it was later expanded to the Supreme Court, the Workers' Legal Aid Cell in Dhaka and Chattogram, and prisons across the country. The National Helpline Call Center (Toll Free-'16430') was introduced in 2013, replacing the earlier hotline-based information services.
A total of 21,596 legal advice services have been provided by the Workers' Legal Assistance Cell in Dhaka and Chattogram until April 2025. Additionally, legal aid has been offered in 4,435 cases, out of which 814 cases have been settled. Initiatives for Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) have been undertaken in 3,300 cases, leading to the settlement of 1,913 cases through ADR.
This service is provided at government expense under the 'Legal Aid Act' to offer legal aid to financially indigent and incompetent individuals seeking justice in the country. The activities of the National Legal Aid Services Organization are managed under the Law and Justice Division of the Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs.
