UN Delegation Engages with Rajshahi University on Women’s Empowerment

Rajshahi: A delegation from the United Nations (UN) in Bangladesh, led by Resident Coordinator Gwyn Lewis, met with Vice-Chancellor of Rajshahi University (RU), Prof Saleh Hassan Naquib, at his office. The meeting focused on enhancing women's empowerment and integrating young women leadership within the university's curriculum in the context of post-revolution 2024.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the delegation included UN Women representative Gitanjali Singh, Head of UN Resident Coordinator's office Louise Barber, and UN Women Bangladesh Officer Syeda Samara Murtada. They were accompanied by Dhaka University Students Leader Umama Fatema and RU Students Leader Tasin Khan.

Discussions during the meeting centered on the university's initiatives for increasing female participation in academic activities and addressing issues of harassment and teasing against women. Vice-Chancellor Prof Saleh Naquib shared insights on the measures taken by the university in these areas.

UNRC Gwyn Lewis expressed a willingness to support efforts towards women empowerment and combating violence against women on the RU campus. Key RU officials, including Pro-VCs Prof Mayeen Uddin and Prof Farid Uddin Khan, Proctor Mahbubur Rahman, Students Adviser Amirul Islam, and Director of the office of international affairs Prof Sazzadur Rahim, were also in attendance.
