Funeral Parade of Valiant FF Azad Held at BAF Base

Dhaka: A funeral parade and namaz-e-janaza of deceased valiant freedom fighter (FF) Group Captain (retd) of Bangladesh Air Force (BAF), M Abul Kalam Azad, was held today at BAF Base Bashar Parade Ground here. The fearless hero of the Great War of Independence passed away at 8 am on June 21 in Kolkata, India due to a heart attack.



According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Azad was 75. He is survived by his wife, three sons, and a large number of admirers. The ceremony was attended by the chiefs of the army and air force, senior officers of the military forces, and other officials from various ranks.



Freedom Fighter Group Captain (retd) M Abul Kalam Azad was born on June 3, 1950, in a respected Muslim family in Solar Char village, Munshiganj district. He was a heroic freedom fighter whose contribution to the 1971 War of Independence will be remembered by the nation forever.



Azad was commissioned in the MT C and E branch of the Bangladesh Air Force (BAF) on June 27, 1974, with early seniority from June 27, 1972. He retired with the rank of Group Captain on May 6, 2004, after serving for 28 years, 11 months, and 6 days.
