United Nations: United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres has announced the appointment of Zia Choudhury of Bangladesh as the United Nations Resident Coordinator in Ghana, following approval from the host government. His role will commence on June 21.
According to EMM, Mr. Choudhury brings a wealth of experience in development and humanitarian efforts, spanning over 25 years. Prior to this new role, he was the United Nations Resident Coordinator in Botswana, a position he held since January 2020.
Mr. Choudhury’s career began as a national field officer on a remote island in the Bay of Bengal that is vulnerable to disasters. Since then, he has taken on various coordination and leadership roles across Africa, Asia, and Europe. He has occupied senior positions in non-governmental organizations, contributed to developing policy and practice on humanitarian quality standards, and founded a social enterprise focused on ethical food. His experience also includes serving on the boards of several non-governmental organizations.
