Dhaka: BNP acting chairman Tarique Rahman has called upon the international community to enhance diplomatic pressure on Myanmar to ensure the safe, dignified, and voluntary repatriation of Rohingya refugees residing in Bangladesh. He emphasized this plea through a Facebook post on World Refugee Day, highlighting the need for a collective global effort to address the ongoing humanitarian crisis.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Tarique Rahman expressed solidarity with millions of forcibly displaced individuals worldwide. He stressed that for Bangladesh, the Rohingya crisis transcends being a global issue and has become an everyday reality. Rahman acknowledged the international commendation Bangladesh has received for its commitment to hosting over 1.4 million Rohingyas in Cox's Bazar.
Despite global recognition, Rahman pointed out that the crisis continues to be one of the world's most severe humanitarian challenges, placing an increasing burden on Bangladesh. He reiterated the necessity for the interim government to amplify diplomatic initiatives directed at Myanmar, ensuring the safe return of the Rohingya people.
Rahman concluded by urging a reinforced commitment to a peaceful and equitable system that enables each refugee to return home, thereby addressing the needs of one of the world's most pressing humanitarian issues.
