Dhaka: Jahangirnagar University (JU) unit of Bangladesh Democratic Students’ Council (BDSC) has established its inaugural convening committee for a one-year term. An official notification, signed by BDSC’s central convener Abu Baker Majumdar, member secretary Jahid Ahsan, and chief organiser Tahmid Al Mudassir Chowdhury, announced the formation on Wednesday night.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Arifuzzaman Uzzal has been appointed as the convener of the committee. Other key appointments include Abu Touhid Md Siam as the member secretary, Nakib Al Mahmud Arnob as the chief organiser, and Nadia Rahman Onnesha as the spokesperson. The notification also stated that Nasim Al Tariq and Ahsan Labib have been named senior joint convener and senior joint member secretary, respectively, within the newly established 58-member committee.
The committee is composed of 8 joint conveners, 9 joint member secretaries, 13 organisers, and 22 members. Sharing his vision, Arifuzzaman Uzzal, the new convenor, expressed a desire to transform the existing culture of student politics at the university. He emphasized the need to move away from practices where students were compelled to participate in political activities.
Uzzal further highlighted the challenges faced by students in the ‘Ganoroom’ and guest room under the guise of discipline. He stated the committee’s aim is to create an inclusive and respectful environment that values students from all backgrounds.
