Govt Declares August 5 as Student-People Uprising Day

Dhaka: The government has made a significant decision to declare August 5 as a public holiday in honor of Student-People Uprising Day. This initiative aims to recognize and commemorate the historical significance of the student-led movement.



According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the decision was reached during a meeting of the Council of Advisers held at the State Guest House Jamuna. Cultural Affairs Adviser Mostofa Sarwar Farooki announced the decision at a press conference at the Foreign Service Academy. Farooki stated that a preliminary agreement has been reached to celebrate August 5 as Student-People Uprising Day each year.



The proposal is set to be presented in the upcoming cabinet meeting scheduled for next Sunday. Following approval, a gazette notification will be issued on the following Monday to formalize the decision. Adviser Farooki emphasized that the recognition of August 5 as a national day will ensure its annual celebration in the future.



Chief Adviser’s Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam also attended the press briefing, where the announcement was made.
