Dhaka: Environment, Forest and Climate Change Adviser Syeda Rizwana Hasan today emphasized the need to promote eco-friendly bamboo furniture as a sustainable alternative to timber. She highlighted the rising pressure on timber resources in the country, urging the adoption of bamboo in furniture production due to its availability, rapid growth, and environmental benefits.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Rizwana made these remarks during a post-Eid greetings ceremony at the Ministry of Environment's conference room. The event marked the first working day after Eid-ul-Azha, where she exchanged greetings with ministry officials and encouraged them to renew their commitment to environmental protection.
Rizwana specifically instructed the Chairman of the Bangladesh Forest Industries Development Corporation (BFIDC) to enhance bamboo-based furniture production. She also underscored the necessity of advancing bamboo processing technologies and creating innovative bamboo products through the Bamboo Research Centre.
The adviser noted the potential of modern bamboo furniture to satisfy domestic needs and expand into international markets. The event was attended by Environment Secretary Dr. Farhina Ahmed, additional secretaries, and other department heads under the ministry.
