Gopalganj: Two people, including a traffic constable, were killed and 15 others injured in a collision involving five vehicles on the Dhaka-Khulna highway in Gopalganj early this morning. The deceased were identified as Rafiquzzaman, an Assistant Traffic Sub-Inspector of Bhatiapara Highway Police, and Selim Hossain Bepari, a helper of an Arman Transport bus. The fatal accident occurred around 4:00 am in front of the Gopinathpur police investigation center.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, police and eyewitnesses reported that a Khulna-bound passenger bus of Baleshwar Transport, which departed from Dhaka, crashed into a stationary truck parked beside the highway. Simultaneously, two other buses belonging to Arman Transport and SP Green Line, along with a private car, all traveling in the same direction, became involved in the pile-up.
Fire service personnel responded promptly to the scene, rescuing the injured and rushing them to the 250-bed General Hospital in Gopalganj. M. Maksudur Rahman, in-charge of the Gopinathpur Police Outpost, confirmed the incident, stating, "All the vehicles involved in the accident have been seized and further investigation is underway."
