Thakurgaon: Two siblings drowned in a river in the Sluicegate area under Haripur upazila of the district. The deceased were Sadia Akhtar, 11, and Saddam Hossain, 6, children of Aminul Islam. According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Haripur Police Station Zakaria Mandal stated that the siblings went to bathe in the nearby Nagar River yesterday afternoon but were swept away by the strong current. After a frantic search, authorities recovered Sadia's body yesterday evening, while Saddam's body was found this morning. Aminul Islam, a resident of Parshuram Jalchatra village in Gangachara upazila of Rangpur, along with his wife and two children, visited his in-laws' house on the occasion of Eid, the OC added.
