Khulna: The Khulna City Unit of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has initiated various measures to ensure the success of its forthcoming primary membership collection and renewal campaign. A preparatory meeting was convened yesterday at a city hotel to discuss strategies for the campaign.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the meeting was presided over by Khulna City Unit BNP President Advocate Shafiqul Alam Mona. During the meeting, he highlighted the proposal made by BNP's Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman, which includes a 31-point outline for state reform. Advocate Mona emphasized that these reforms are crucial for rebuilding the country's current state structure and contain necessary elements for state repair. He noted that the reform plan is aligned with the aspirations of pro-democratic political parties that have opposed past autocratic regimes.
Addressing the topic of the interim government's reform proposal, Advocate Mona asserted that reform is an ongoing process. He expressed skepticism about the current government's ability to implement all necessary reforms due to its short-term and unelected status. He stressed that the government's primary responsibility is to ensure the implementation of essential reforms for conducting free, fair, and neutral elections, after which power should be transferred to elected representatives.
The meeting also saw contributions from other prominent figures, including City Unit General Secretary Shafiqul Alam Tuhin, and BNP leaders Sheikh Sadi, Masud Parvez Babu, Hasanur Rashid Chowdhury Miraj, among others. To bolster the campaign's success, a sub-committee was established with Shafiqul Alam Tuhin as its convener. The committee comprises presidents and general secretaries from five thana-level BNP units and affiliated bodies.
Furthermore, Sheikh Sadi was assigned responsibility for managing three units under Khanjahan Ali Thana, six units in Daulatpur Thana, and two units in Khalishpur Thana. Masud Parvez Babu will oversee seven wards in Khalishpur Thana and four wards in Sonadanga Thana, while Hasanur Rashid Chowdhury Miraj will manage three wards in Sonadanga Thana and the entire Sadar Thana.
