Pregnant Woman and Minor Girl Drown in Jamuna River Tragedy

Daulatpur: A pregnant woman and a minor girl drowned in the Jamuna river at Banchamara area under Daulatpur upazila of the Manikganj district while they were bathing. Locals reported a group of people, including men and women, were bathing in the river when a sudden strong current swept away six individuals.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, four people were rescued by locals, but two individuals went missing in the river. The victims have been identified as Borsha Khatun, 20, a pregnant woman and daughter of Md Abdul Boyati, and Lamia Khatun, 10, daughter of Md Rahej Boyati. Both were residents of Banchamara Purbopara village under the upazila.

Upon receiving the information, a team from the Aricha Ghat Fire Service arrived at the scene and initiated a rescue operation. However, by dusk, the bodies had not yet been recovered. "The rescue operation will resume today," stated sources from the Fire Service.

Daulatpur Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Nahian Nuren informed BSS that the Fire Service will continue the search for the missing bodies today. Additionally, the upazila administration has initiated awareness campaigns through miking to warn locals about the hazardous areas of the river and to ensure safety. The bodies were yet to be found till the filing of this report.
