London: Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus today stated there is no way that he would be interested in becoming part of the next elected government. He emphasized that their responsibility is to ensure a smooth transition of power to an elected government through polls.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Professor Yunus clarified that neither he nor any member of the Council of Advisers desires to join the next democratically elected government. This declaration came during a question and answer session following his conversation at the Royal Institute of International Affairs in Chatham House, London.

The Chief Adviser reiterated that their primary focus is on managing the transition effectively and ensuring public satisfaction when power is handed over to the elected government. He highlighted the importance of conducting a fair election as a critical factor in their mandate.

Addressing a question about the Bangladesh Awami League, Prof Yunus mentioned an ongoing debate regarding the party’s status as a political entity, given accusations against it involving serious crimes. He noted that the debate is ongoing, without passing judgment.

Prof Yunus also referred to the nation’s decision to temporarily suspend the activities of the Awami League, citing safety concerns for both the country and its politicians. He stated that the suspension would remain until legal proceedings are concluded.

On the topic of media freedom, he asserted that the media is currently enjoying an unprecedented level of freedom.
