Natore: Commerce Adviser Sk. Bashir Uddin announced that rawhides from sacrificial animals during this Holy Eid ul Azha are being sold at their highest rates in a decade. He attributed this achievement to the distribution of free salt and efforts to encourage people, thereby enhancing capacity.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Bashir made these remarks at a view-exchange meeting with district rawhides traders at Chakbaiddyanath. He explained that the government pre-set rawhide prices and provided free salt to Madrasahs and orphanages to aid in their preservation. “Our goal was to ensure that if these institutions preserved rawhides with salt, it would create a balance between demand and supply,” he stated.
Bashir also highlighted governmental efforts to boost the rawhide trade. This included distributing policy leaflets and promoting awareness through religious leaders in mosques. The government supplied approximately 7.50 lakh maunds of free salt to Madrasahs and orphanages for the first time to assist in rawhide preservation.
The Commerce Adviser expressed optimism, citing the development of a new culture in the rawhide trading sector, with expectations for better outcomes next year. Rawhides Trading Group officials, including President Sayedar Khan and General Secretary Halim Uddin, participated in the meeting.
Natore Police Super M Amzad Hossain, Additional Deputy Commissioners M Arif Hossain and M Abul Hayat, and Natore Sadar UNO Akhter Jahan Sathi were also present. Later, Bashir inspected the rawhide preservation operations at a Madrasah receiving free salt from the government, expressing his satisfaction with the efforts.
