Dhaka: Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Adviser Asif Mahmud Shojib Bhuyain has emphasized that maintaining a clean city is an ongoing responsibility, not just a one-time goal. In a recent post on his verified Facebook page, he highlighted the successful removal of 100 percent of sacrificial animal waste from 487 wards across 12 city corporations by 10 pm on Eid ul Azha day. This achievement, he stated, was the result of collective planning and dedication.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Asif Mahmud expressed that this accomplishment is more than just a statistic; it represents the fulfillment of a promise and the realization of cleanliness as a reality. He noted that Dhaka was cleaned in under 12 hours, attributing this success to the responsibility demonstrated by city residents and the tireless efforts of cleanliness workers.
The adviser further reported that on Eid day, 40,104 tonnes of sacrificial animal waste were removed, thanks to the diligent work of 35,272 cleanliness workers. This effort rendered 487 wards completely free from waste. He acknowledged that while many did not use designated areas for animal sacrifice, the workers managed to complete the cleanup ahead of schedule. The waste reported on the second day of Eid was from animals sacrificed on that day, and the cleanup program was set to continue on the third day of Eid.
