Dhaka: The government has officially sanctioned the procurement of 30,000 metric tonnes of rock phosphate and 70,000 metric tonnes of MOP fertilizer as part of efforts to meet the country's increasing demands.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the approvals were granted during the 22nd meeting of the Advisers Council Committee on Government Purchase (ACCGP). The meeting was convened at the Cabinet Division Conference Room at Bangladesh Secretariat and was chaired by Finance Adviser Dr. Salehuddin Ahmed.
The Ministry of Industries proposed that the Bangladesh Chemical Industries Corporation (BCIC) procure 30,000 MTs of rock phosphate for TSPCL. This procurement will be from M/s Zentrade FZE, UAE, with the manufacturer being OCP S.A., Morocco. The cost is estimated at around Tk 89.50 crore, with each metric tonne priced at US$232.90.
In a related move, the Ministry of Agriculture proposed that the Bangladesh Agricultural Development Corporation (BADC) acquire 40,000 MTs of MOP fertilizer. This will be done through a state-level agreement with the Canadian Commercial Corporation (CCC) of Canada, costing approximately Tk 165.73 crore, with each metric tonne priced at $339.63.
Additionally, BADC is set to procure another 30,000 MTs of MOP fertilizer from JSC "Foreign Economic Corporation (Prodintorg)" of Russia. This procurement will also be under a state-level agreement, costing around Tk 124.30 crore, with the price per metric tonne being $339.63.
