Sylhet: Sylhet district has recorded 404.8 millimeters of rainfall from 6am yesterday to 9am today, marking the highest rainfall in the district’s history.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Shah Md. Sajeeb Hossain, assistant director of the Sylhet Meteorological Department, confirmed that this amount has exceeded the district’s previous record of 309 millimeters, set on July 2, 2023. Over the last 24 hours, the district observed 156 millimeters of rainfall between 12 noon and 3pm on Saturday, another 35 millimeters from 3pm to 6am, and a further 206.2 millimeters from 6pm to 6am today.

The heavy rainfall has caused water levels in the rivers of Sylhet to rise significantly, nearing the danger level. In certain areas, river water has already surpassed the danger mark, posing potential risks to the local population.

The Meteorological Office has indicated that rain is expected to continue in Sylhet for three more days, suggesting ongoing vigilance for residents and authorities in the region.
